It's been a long time since I've written one of these things. But with summer coming, we have a number of artists on the books, and we really want to get this thing up and running again. So I just finished writing the latest edition of the newsletter, and it'll be going out today.
I'm actually writing this at Jack Brown's kitchen table. We met Jack at FAR-West last fall, and he'll be playing a Backyar House Concert in July, when he's out for the STP (that's the Seattle-to-Portland bike ride, in case you were wondering). Jack currently lives in the Boise area, although he'll be heading to South Korea this fall to take on a new music teaching job there. I did my MS at Boise State, and I'm in town for my advisor's memorial service. That's a lousy reason to be in town, but I'm thankful Jack has been kind enough to host me while I'm here. I even got to hang out the other night, listening to him play as he rehearsed for an upcoming show with a friend. So this musicial community we've become a part of has provided a silver lining to what would otherwise be a fairly dark cloud.
In the next few weeks, I hope to get the website updated, so the calendar reflects all the artists we have currently booked, and I'll even try to post the recipes I'm missing (I've had some folks ask for a couple of them). So stay tuned for more! Better yet, come on out to a concert - James Hurley's playing May 3, and I'm making tamales!
